With the return of warm weather to the northwest city of Karamay in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, so too have come flocks of sun worshipping birds.

Birds such as the great crested grebe, redshank, mallard duck, pied avocet, black-winged stilt, garganey and ruddy shelduck can be seen flying across the sky and foraging on the water.

Dai Xuhu, a reporter from Karamay Daily, documented the birdlife throughout April at the city’s Gold Dragon Lake, Red Mountain Lake, West Moon Pond and Nine-Kilometer Wetland.
