  • Urumqi plans to add green land

    Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, plans to build 13,000 mu (866.67 hectares) of green land in 2018, equalling the size of 1,181 football fields.

    Urumqi plans to build 100 small parks, eight greenways, 20 garden-style communities, cultivate 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of forests and build 2,900 mu (193.33 hectares) of big seedling base.

    The city will also speed up its construction of landscape engineering along eastern city expressway, as well as the green lands of parks. After the construction, the green coverage rate is expected to reach 41 percent and the green space ratio is expected to reach 38 percent. The green area in the park per capita could increase to 11.5 square meters per person.

    In 2018, Urumqi will apply to become a national Eco Garden City. It will strive to meet its standard by the end of 2019 and become a national Eco Garden City by 2020. The green land project will start construction in early spring and it's estimated to be completed by the end of this year.

    Urumqi plans to afforest nine barren mountains including Yamaric Mountain with a total of 15,000 mu (1000 hectares) area of trees.

    According to statistics, in 2017, Urumqi built 18,000 mu (1,200 hectares) of green land and 20 garden-style communities. It cultivated 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of forests and built 1,100 mu (73.33 hectares) of big seedling base. 6,000 mu (400 hectares) of grain plots were returned to forestry and 6,129 mu (408.6 hectares) of barren mountain was afforested. It built 101 small parks and roadside greenbelt and nine greenways.
