Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum experienced a busy Spring Festival holiday period, with around 4,000 people visiting on average each day, according to the museum's management. The museum was closed from Feb 15 to 18, but reopened on Feb 19.

"Every day around 4,000 people visited the museum during the Spring Festival holiday, about 1,000 more than the same period last year," said He Xiaoxue, director of the museum's publicity department.

During the holiday period, three exhibitions including one on historical relics, a folk customs exhibition, and an ancient mummy exhibition were open to the public.

According to He, many visitors were attracted by the prospect of seeing an ancient mummy.

The mummy, known as the "Loulan beauty", is 3,800 years old, and is wrapped in clothes made from linen, cotton and silk which have maintained much of their original appearance.

In the folk customs exhibition, the unique decoration, exhibits and colorful costumes also proved a hit.

Souvenirs were purchased by many of the visitors during the holiday period, with people loading up on gifts for friends and relatives.

Various activities were also held by the museum over Spring Festival, including a lantern-making activity, which proved particularly popular.
