The unveiling ceremony for the large-scale photovoltaic power station climate environment ecological effect research observation field, jointly built by the Xinjiang Wujiaqu Xuyang Photovoltaic Power Co and Xinjiang Bonage Material Technology Co, was recently held in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district).

Located in Toutunhe district, Xinjiang Bonage Material Technology Co mainly focuses on the research and development of silicon thin plates, distribution boxes and solar energy equipment.

The observation field was established at the end of 2017 by the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University, according to the strategic cooperation agreement between Tsinghua University and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

After more than half a year of debugging observation equipment, the system observation research work has finally begun.

Luo Yong, professor of the Department of Earth System Science, said the observation field has two contrast observation towers which observe micro-meteorological elements such as radiation, air pressure, temperature, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, rain (snow), ground temperature, and temperature of the photovoltaic panel backplane at different heights inside and outside the field.

The observation data is directly connected to the data receiving terminal at Tsinghua University through real-time wireless transmission and is used to analyze and calculate the possible influence of the construction of large-scale photovoltaic power stations on the boundary layer parameters of the surface and the ecological effects of the district's climate.

Chen Miao, president of Xinjiang Bonage Material Technology Co, said the enterprise's technical strength can be improved by relying on the data provided by the observation field, contributing to Xinjiang's ecological environment.

In recent years, Xinjiang has made progress in the development and utilization of wind energy and solar energy.

As the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Xinjiang's research and transformation of renewable energy will play an important role in developing Belt and Road Initiative.

The large-scale photovoltaic power station climate environment ecological effect research observation field will not only provide a good observation and research platform for climate, environment, ecological research data information, renewable energy development and utilization, but also spearhead the new "school-enterprise" and "school-district" cooperation models for Tsinghua University.

Luo Jianguang, director of the science and technology bureau of Toutunhe district, said the district has been committed to promoting industry-university-research cooperation to improve the level of scientific and technological research and development of enterprises in the district.

The partnership with Tsinghua University began in 2009 and the two sides reached a comprehensive cooperation agreement on personnel training and introduction, strategic consulting, industry-university-research cooperation in September 2010 and renewed the agreement for five additional years in 2016, he added.
