A conference was held in Karamay's Urho district on Sept 1, discussing the efforts of Karamay World Ghost City tourism site to become a national 5A scenic spot, Karamay daily newspaper reported.

At the conference, officials from Karamay tourism bureau, Karamay City Investment Company and Urho district government introduced the promotional work of the Karamay World Ghost City scenic spot.

The construction work at Karamay World Ghost City initially started in 2000. Since then, infrastructure including roads, utilities, toilets, and a tourist information office and guide system, has all been built. At the same time, the tourism site has opened Xinjiang stuffed animal exhibition hall, restaurants, and a sightseeing track, in order to offer a diverse range of activities for tourists.

Zhu Hexiang, member of the standing committee of the municipal Party committee, stated at the conference that the construction work needed to be finished by the end of this year.

After the conference, Zhu visited the site and put forward suggestions for improvements to the site's infrastructure.

In 2013, Karamay started to turn the site into a national 5A-rated tourism site. The World Ghost City scenic spot is about 100 kilometers away from Karamay. As one of the most famous tourist attractions in Karamay, World Ghost City attracts tourists to its unique landform which makes a howling sound when it's windy.
