Karamay's CPI rises 1.7% in 2014

The consumer price index (CPI) of Karamay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in 2014 has risen by 1.7 percent compared to 2013, far below its 4 percent target, according to the Karamay branch of the National Bureau of Statistics.

The figures released show that the CPI for six categories of goods and services rose in 2014, namely food (2.7 percent), housing (2.3 percent), clothing (1.8 percent), household furnishing (1.6 percent), personal and medical care (0.8 percent) and traffic and telecommunication (0.7 percent).

The index for alcoholic beverages and tobacco fell 0.8 percent while it recorded fall in recreation and education by 0.3 percent.

The CPI measures changes in consumer prices, which are monitored periodically by the National Bureau of Statistics to keep inflation under control.
