Kanas Lake
Kanas Lake, located in the valley of the Altai, Xinjiang, is a famous natural resort. Colors of Kanas Lake vary in different seasons and weather. Its beauty and mysterious folk tales attract many tourists every year.The Kanas Lake, which means "beautiful, rich and mysterious" in Mongolian, can be found 150km north of Bu'erjin Town in Xinjiang. Nestled in the deep forests and mountains of Altay, the lake is 1,374m above sea level and covers an area of 45sqkm (10 times bigger than Tianchi on Bogda Mountain) with the deepest point of 188m.
Tianchi Lake
Tianchi Lake is located half way up Bogda Peak in Fukang County, 110km east of Urumqi City. As a natural alpine lake, it has an elevation of 1,980 meters. In the shape of a half moon, the lake is 3,400 meters long, about 1,500 meters wide, and 105 meters at the deepest point. With limpid water, the lake shines like a sapphire under the sun and is surrounded by green mountains. At the southeast end of the lake is the magnificent Bogda Peak, meaning “Sacred Mountain” in the Mongolian language.
Bosten Lake
Bosten Lake is a freshwater lake located on the northeastern rim of the Tarim Basin, about 20 km east of Yanqi and 57 km northeast of Korla, Xinjiang, China. Covering an area of about 1,000 km2, it is the largest lake in Xinjiang and one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in China.
Karakol Lake
The Karakol Lake, also called Karakul or Karakuli Lake meaning black lake, is located 196 km from Kashgar, Xinjiang province, China. It sits in Akto County, Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture on the Karakoram Highway, before reaching Tashkurgan, the Khunjerab Pass on the China - Pakistan border and Sost in Pakistan.
Sayram Lake
Sayram Lake, renowned as a pearl of the Silk Road, is the largest alpine lake in Xinjiang. It is located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) southwest of Botala Prefecture, Urumqi. In Mongolian language, sayram means 'a lake on the ridge'. In Kazak, sayram means 'blessing'.
