China International Import Expo officials credit cooperation with Xinjiang exhibitors and trading groups for boosting business and cultural communication among its participants.

The sixth CIIE is pursuing a strategy of promotion while holding a variety of events to boost matchmaking among exhibitors and buyers. The latest were held on Thursday and Friday in Urumqi, capital of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Liu Fuxue, deputy director-general of the CIIE Bureau, said at the event that the successful staging of the CIIE for five consecutive sessions is thanks to the strong support from and cooperation with various trading groups and relevant organizations.

Liu said the main purpose of holding a pre-exhibition event in Urumqi was to open channels of communication between Xinjiang enterprises and overseas enterprises, aimed at creating economic and trade cooperation platforms to assist Xinjiang in sharing its opening-up achievements with the outside world while embracing a more open economic system.

Such an activity can also accelerate the construction of a major opening-up channel and activate international and domestic markets and resources in a bid to help the region integrate into the new development pattern, Liu added.

Several officials, including Hu Jianping, special representative of the ministry of commerce in Xi'an, and You Jialin, deputy director of Xinjiang's commerce department, spoke at the event. Seven CIIE participants in the food and agricultural exhibition area, including CP Group, Goodfarmer Fruits and Dapharm, showcased their products and services, along with 11 exhibitors in the technical equipment exhibition area and nine in the consumer goods exhibition area.

More than 180 Xinjiang buyers, including Goldwind and Yema, attended the event, negotiating with exhibitors and establishing business contacts, while multiple organizations in the industry organized buyers to watch online.

Three other pre-exhibition matchmaking activities have been held on July 6, July 26 and Aug 8, covering all six exhibition areas of the CIIE. At the Urumqi event, the CIIE Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Protection Technology special committee held a closed-door meeting to promote low-carbon development and environmental protection technologies.

Liu said the goal of the special committee is to build a bridge between the government and enterprises, provide a window for exhibitors to propose their suggestions and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the industry.

He added the committee will constantly expand its influence and continue to gather globally renowned exhibitors to showcase low-carbon technologies and achievements.

Xinjiang has prominent advantages in natural resources, and the industry as a whole is developing toward high-quality, high-tech and low-energy consumption, Liu said.

He pointed out that such an activity will help exhibitors understand the industrial characteristics and business environment of Xinjiang, assist them in exploring the local market and promote the green and low-carbon development of local industries.

Eleven participating companies from the technical equipment exhibition area, including Baker Hughes, Milliken and Accenture, participated in the Urumqi event, covering industries such as energy, environmental protection, water treatment, new materials, and automation.

During the sixth CIIE, the Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Protection Technology special committee will continue to carry out forum activities and invite participants from government, industry, academia and research to participate.
