The management committee of the Kanas scenic area of Altay prefecture, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Saturday issued a statement, saying that they will provide free accommodation to the stranded tourists in the scenic area due to recent snowfall weather.

Starting from January 6, the prefecture's Burjin county ushered in several rounds of snowfall weather, resulting in avalanches on the roads leading from Burjin to several scenic spots, including Kanas, Hemu and Baihaba.

The transportation has been disrupted and a large number of passengers are left stranded.

According to the statement, tourists stranded in the villages of Kanas, Hemu and Baihaba can live in their hotel rooms for free and have free dinners at designated sites.

According to the local government, the snowfall has weakened, and the traffic police department is trying to clean the road and unlock the traffic as soon as possible, media outlet ThePaper.cn reported on Sunday.

A tourist named You told ThePaper.cn on Saturday that he and his companions had been stranded in Hemu village for four days and after receiving the statement, the hotel owner had returned him the prepaid accommodation costs of Friday and Saturday.

"Although I feel a little uncomfortable to be stranded and our air tickets have been canceled, the solutions by the scenic spots made us feel warm," he said.
