The city of Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, planted nearly 17 million trees in 2014, adding more than 2,400 hectares of green areas, and it plans to transform six barren mountains into parks and add another 2,400 hectares of green areas.

The six parks will be New Resource, Red Sun, Blue Sky, Gook Luck Mountain, Rancho Santa Fe Sports, and Baishang, and the transformation will cost 250 million yuan ($ 40.23 million) to grow trees or grass on 200 hectares of land.

Zhai Qinying, head of the city’s Forestry Bureau, said that the city will improve the infrastructure in all kinds of parks and it will also promote vertical and roof greening in old areas to narrow down the greening gaps between different regions.
