First snowfall blankets Kanas scenic area
The Kanas scenic area is located in the Altai Mountains near the very northern tip of Xinjiang. It borders Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. Known as a “Pure Land in the Human Realm,” the area has received a number of honors, including the titles of “National Geological Park” and “National Forest Park.” It was included on the National Nature and Culture Heritage list.
Winter cultural festival opens in Xinjiang
A winter cultural festival opens in Zhaotong, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on Saturday. The festival, which lasts until the end of March, has already attracted many tourists.
Tianshan Grand Canyon becomes national 5A scenic spot
Tianshan Grand Canyon in the city of Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region, was listed as a national 5A scenic spot by the National Quality Ranking Committee of Tourist Attractions. The awards ceremony took place on Jan 13. To date, Xinjiang has seven national 5A scenic spots, including Kanas, Heaven Lake of Tian Shan and Turpan Grape Valley.
Beautiful scenery of Bosten Lake in winter
Bosten Lake is a freshwater lake located on the northeastern rim of the Tarim Basin, about 20 km east of Yanqi and 57 km northeast of Korla, Xinjiang, China. Covering an area of about 1,000 km2, it is the largest lake in Xinjiang and one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in China.
