The first 100 MW thermal storage solar tower in Bortala prefecture, Xinjiang

Uygur autonomous region was completed this month, marking a new milestone for the region's new energy development.

The 100 MW thermal storage project, paired with a 900 MW photovoltaic project and two booster stations in the prefecture, is set to begin phased operations by the end of this year, said State Grid Bortala Electric Power Co, the project's operator.

The power operator said that once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 2.04 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving approximately 620,000 metric tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 1.69 million tons each year.

It added that the 900 MW photovoltaic project and two booster stations have reached operational readiness.

The company plans to accelerate the construction of power transmission channels, closely monitor the progress of defect rectification in new energy projects, and ensure that equipment is deployed without defects, it said.

"The efforts are aimed at facilitating the timely grid connection of new energy projects, thereby injecting robust momentum into the integrated economic development of the Bortala prefecture," said State Grid Bortala Electric Power Co in its statement.
