The State Grid Xinjiang Economic Research Institute concluded its review of the Huaneng Urumqi 270,000 kW co-located wind and solar intensive demonstration project this month, the first of its kind in Xinjiang.

The project enhances traditional co-located wind and solar installations by intensifying the layout of wind turbines within existing wind farms and replacing smaller turbines with larger, more efficient ones. This approach accelerates the development and utilization of new energy sources, significantly increasing development intensity per unit area. It dramatically improves regional resource utilization and power generation capacity, playing a pivotal role in advancing the growth of new energy and promoting green, low-carbon industrial development.

Currently, Huaneng Dabancheng Wind Farm has connected 99,500 kW to the grid, while Urumqi Xinte Wind Farm has integrated 100,000 kW. The demonstration project plans to intensify efforts around these two sites by adding 130,000 kW of wind power and 140,000 kW of photovoltaic power, thereby boosting land use intensity by 2.4 times.

Looking ahead, the State Grid Xinjiang Economic Research Institute said it will continue to prioritize advanced wind and photovoltaic power generation technologies to elevate service standards in the green energy sector. The efforts are expected to further propel the region’s sustainable energy development and contribute to achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals in the autonomous region.
