The 209.45-kilometer-long Altay-Hemu highway in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region officially opened on June 30, connecting Altay City to Hemu Village in the Kanas Scenic Area. Dubbed "the most beautiful road in northern Xinjiang," it offers stunning views of mountains, grasslands and lakes. The route forms a loop with existing highways, reducing travel time and boosting local tourism. Since trial operations commenced in 2024, the highway has received a total of over 49,000 trips via vehicular traffic and 160,000 visits.
